L’Oréal – Makeupverse
The challenge
L’Oréal wanted local employees to be able to discover some of their new line launches through a virtual “Makeupverse” event.
To go with the theme, they wanted an avatar of a brand manager to introduce aspects of the Makeupverse at the event. For this purpose, they provided us with a video of the employee they wanted turned into an avatar introducing the products.
Our approach
We created an avatar of L’Oréal’s representative, collaboratively tuning the appearance to give an accurate likeness. Once finalised, we used a rigged model and animated it to match the gestures and movements from the video. Finally, we synchronised the avatar with the audio soundtrack and added subtitles and overlays.
Upon opening the web-based AR experience, the 3D avatar could be virtually placed on the floor at life size scale. Upon placing it, the user was able to experience the avatar introducing them to the event.
The outcome
At L’Oréal’s event, employees were able to scan a QR code in order to access the experience. As the AR experience is web-based, all attendees needed was a mobile browser, rather than a mobile app.
The experience proved to be an interesting approach to developing 3D avatars from video.
