Shopify – Berlin Memento Store
The challenge
We recently worked with Shopify to help deliver on their Mementos Store launching in November 2021.
The Shopify Mementos Store represents what Shopify considers to be the ‘Store of the Future’. For the experience, Shopify wanted customers to be able to explore editor hand-picked products sold by Shopify merchants in full 3D and to-scale.
Shopify asked Poplar Studio to find a way of using 3D modelling and augmented reality to showcase these editor’s picks to employees, allowing them to interact with them digitally. The first Memento Store was planned to launch in their Berlin office.
Our approach
Poplar Studio produced an application for iOS that allows Shopify employees to explore six of Shopify Editor’s pick products, with the added opportunity to purchase them. The products can be visualised in 3D, or launched in AR, using Poplar Studio’s 3D/AR Product Visualisation solution.
The app was accessible via iPads placed for use in the Memento Market space in Berlin, placed on free-standing units. To launch the experience, employees simply needed to scan a Shopify logo in order to access a virtual shopping bag. Inside, the 3D modelled products were showcased, which users could interact with by rotating and zooming in and out. Additionally, users were able to launch the products in AR, which allowed them to virtually “place” them in their real environment at true scale.
Additionally, customers were able to add the products to their cart and purchase them after visualisation for a complete 360 sales cycle.
The outcome
The experience launched in November and proved a huge success. We are now working with Shopify to develop 5 additional 3D models to launch in the store. Shopify also plan on launching new Memento Stores in other cities.
