MADE.COM – Virtual Apartment
The challenge
To complement their campaign ‘Introducing: AW20’, a see-now-shop-now web experience, MADE.COM wanted to incorporate a a social AR element.
The ‘Introducing: AW20’ experience, which could be accessed via a mobile or desktop browser, enabled customers to access several virtual showrooms, where they could click on tags to access stories behind the products, from design details to designer collaborations. After clicking on them, users were also able to shop the trends.
With the AR experience, the MADE.COM team wanted to take this immersion a step further by providing an AR portal that transported users to several showrooms in their virtual Amsterdam-style apartment through their mobile phone.
Our approach
We created a dual-effect AR portal, enabling users to access experiences using both their front and back-facing cameras.
The back-facing camera allowed users to visualise the showrooms through the doorway of an Arched mirror (sold at MADE.COM) placed in their environment. As the user moved their mobile device around, they were able to view different perspectives of the showrooms. By tapping the screen, they were also able to jump from one room to the next.
In contrast, the front-facing camera mode allowed the user to appear directly within the showroom, enabling them to take photo or video selfies among the luxury of the Amsterdam-style apartment.
Each of the showrooms provided a 360º view, offering a dynamic, detailed perspective of the environment and enabling the user to envision how they might want to style their own homes.
